I can no longer argue for tone and can only watch as the demographic demands that have turned America into an ageist and youth-obsessed nation drives the storylines younger and younger, whiter and whiter, and with less and less reflection of the real America, which is made up, to the sorrow of the research departments, of people over 35 years of age and of many ethnicities and incomes.

This quote sort of puts words to one of my elusive thoughts. It’s from the producer of Brothers and Sisters, who’s leaving the show because the Hollywood machine is just not for him. But the thing it finally crystallizes for me, is the USA, as a country, are much “better” (judgement based on my worldview only) than what they’ve been making themselves look like for the past few years.

 And yes, I realize it probably sounds condescending, but that’s because I have trouble putting things that are important to me into words.
